CHILDREN’S SUMMER READING
Read what you want this summer during our “Read, Renew, Repeat” Summer Reading Program, June 17th – August 16th!
- Register for our Summer Reading Challenge in person, online, or through the Beanstack app
- Read and track your time spent readings or books read
- Earn badges by completing mini challenges
- All reading counts, including magazines, comic books, audiobooks, or listening to books read aloud
COMPUTERS
Two AWE Learning Stations are available for playing pre-loaded educational games: an Early Literacy Station for Ages 2–8, and an AfterSchool Edge Station for Ages 6–12.
PLAY AREA
Use our beautiful space for open play to stimulate cognitive skills in young children. A puppet theatre, train table, and puzzles are available for use here.

MUSEUM PASSES
Discount passes to museums, including the Boston Children’s Museum and New England Aquarium, may be reserved and borrowed at the Reference Desk on the Lower Level. Many are now e-passes, that you do not need to pick up or print out. (Please note the Aquarium does not offer the pass program in the summer months.) Reserve up to 90 days in advance using our online reservation system, or by calling the Reference Desk. Visit our Museum Pass page for more information.
TEACHERS & SCHOOLS
Class and teacher visits welcome! To schedule a group visit or to alert us about an upcoming homework assignment, please email Children’s Librarian Elisabeth Strachan. Miss Elisabeth is often available to visit schools and other organizations to share stories or talk about library services, with advance notice.
QUICK PICKS KIDS
No time? Let the Children’s Staff put together a Quick Pick book bundle for you! It’s easy.
- Call or complete the Quick Pick form – there are printed copies available at the library or you can fill out the online form here.
- The Children’s staff will pick 3-6 books based on your choices.
- You will be notified by email when your books are ready to pick up during regular library hours.

BOOKS
Books circulate for two weeks and can usually be renewed up to two times. Includes books with read-along CDs.
DVDs and PLAYAWAY LAUNCHPADS
DVDs circulate for two weeks and may be renewed once. Launchpads circulate for one week and may be renewed once.
AUDIOBOOKS
Audiobooks circulate for two weeks, and may be renewed once.
E-BOOKS & DOWNLOADABLE AUDIOBOOKS
Borrow children’s ebooks and e-audiobooks with the Libby app from OverDrive or with Hoopla. Borrow music and watch streaming video through Hoopla.

Videogames can be checked out for two weeks and may be renewed once.
FINE-FREE
All of the above items are fine-free, as long as they belong to Thayer Public Library. Items that are borrowed here but belong to other libraries, may be subject to overdue fines if returned late.
LAUNCHPADS TO LEND
The pre-loaded tablet that is built for circulation. Playaway Launchpads are curated with collections of learning apps, and videos grouped by age and ready to play right off the shelf. No download time. No need for Wi-Fi. Access is simple as turning on each device — anytime, anywhere.
PARENTING MATERIALS
Books on issues such as sleeping, nutrition and education are available, as well as magazines such as Parents and FamilyFun.
REFERENCE
Dictionaries, encyclopedias, atlases and more are available.
STREAMING VIDEO
Kanopy Kids
Kanopy’s curated collection of content for children, with a focus on ages 2-8. While in Kanopy Kids, you’ll only see content that’s age-appropriate and allows unlimited viewing. Parental controls available.
WORLD LANGUAGES
There is a small collection of children’s books in Chinese, Spanish, Arabic, and languages other than English. Children’s materials in other languages may be requested from other libraries and picked up and returned here.

Thayer Public Library offers a library Summer Reading Program for children up through grade 6, in addition to programs for teens and adults of all ages.
SIGN UP FOR SUMMER READING
Register for the Summer Reading Program in the Children’s Room at the library, online at thayerpubliclibrary.beanstack.org or using the Beanstack app! Don’t forget to check the Children’s Calendar to see all the special events we have planned. Summer reading runs from June 17th to August 16th, but activities and programs continue all summer long!
