CHILDREN’S SUMMER READING 2020

2020 CHILDREN’S SUMMER READING CHALLENGE: 1000 BOOKS

Things to do this Summer:

  • Enjoy the sun
  • Eat watermelon
  • Join the Summer Reading Challenge!

Enjoy books all summer and record how many books you read. Every book helps you earn cool badges. And your books can help the library towards our community goal of 1000 books read for the Boston Bruins “When You Read You Score” program.

This year we’re going online and now you can sign up for summer reading using Beanstack!  Track your books and submit your reviews online (reviews will display reader’s first name and last initial) or use the mobile app, available in the App Store and the Google Play Store.

We have lots of Virtual Events planned around this year’s theme of “Imagine Your Story” starting with the kickoff — two Virtual Escape Rooms for all ages. And don’t forget to participate in “Better Gnomes and Fairy Gardens” on Instagram throughout the Summer! We will also be teaming up with the Braintree Parks and Recreation Department to present events throughout the Summer as part of the “Braintree 2020 Summertastic Distance Social Series.” You can learn more about these events, and all the fun we have planned for children this summer on the library calendar.  If you want to be among the first to know about everything happening at the library, then don’t forget to subscribe to our newlsetter!

2020 Braintree Public Schools: Summer Reading & Assignments

Keep up with education and imagination all summer long to limit the effects of the “summer slide.” The summer slide is a common phenomenon in student to lose some the achievement gains made during the school year. Kids who read just four books over the summer fare better on reading-comprehension tests in the fall. Kids entering grade six can choose to participate in either the Children’s Summer Reading Challenge or the Teen Summer Reading Challenge (but not both!).

The Thayer Public Library Summer Reading is sponsored by Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners, the Friends of Thayer Public Library, Collaborative Summer Library Program, and the Boston Bruins.
