CHROMEBOOK POLICY
Chromebook Use Procedure
1. Chromebooks may be borrowed for in-library use only, for up to four (4) hours. A time extension may be allowed, if no one is waiting.
2. To use a Chromebook:
-
Adults, ages 17+– ask at Reference Desk. Must show a valid library card or other ID.
-
Teens, ages 12-16 — ask in Young Adult/Teen Room, or at the Reference Desk. Use may be allowed without valid library card at discretion of staff.
-
Children, ages 8-12 — ask at Children’s Room Desk. Must be accompanied by a responsible adult (18+) and must log in with school-issued Google-Suite account. Guest browsing is disabled and not allowed.
3. Chromebook must be returned in the same condition as it was in when borrowed. Patron may not install, or load any apps or other items (i.e., eBooks, alternative web browsers, etc.) onto the Chromebook.
4. Chromebooks must be returned directly to a library staff member. A borrowed Chromebook may not be returned at an unattended service desk.
5. Only the patron who has checked out the device is authorized for its use. If the patron allows others to use the device, the patron assumes all liability and responsibility for such use.
6. The patron agrees to immediately discontinue use of the Chromebook, and to return the Chromebook to the library as per the return policy below, if the Chromebook becomes unsafe to use due to signs of any electrical or other potential problems.
7. The patron agrees to accept the library’s assessment of the laptop’s condition upon return of the device to the library and any subsequent assessment of fair restitution for damage, dirtiness, delinquency, and/or loss of the item and associated objects in part or in total. This restitution amount may equal but not exceed the full replacement cost of the Chromebook, carrying case, and any other accompanying items.
8. The patron agrees that the library is not responsible or liable in any way for any loss, harm, or damage to any entity, system, person, or organization incurred through the use of the Chromebook by the patron, and that the library is not responsible for the loss of any files or user data saved on the Chromebook. Any files or other items saved to the Chromebook will be erased upon the return of the device.
9. The patron or responsible adult must sign the “Chromebook Policy- User Agreement” each time a Chromebook is checked out to them. By signing the User Agreement, the patron is certifying that he or she is capable of using the device in a safe, legal, and appropriate manner.
10. The Library reserves the right to refuse the loan of any item at its own discretion.

Switch between profiles on Chrome OS
Did you know that you can use your work Google Account alongside your personal Google Account? To have them both running simultaneously so you can easily switch between the two, you’ll just need to set up profiles for each (or more, if you want). Once it’s set up, you can also move windows between accounts with a couple of clicks.
To set up multiple profiles
1. Sign out of all accounts
2. Add your personal account to the device by clicking Add person in the bottom left of the screen
3. Sign out of all accounts again, then sign into your work account
4. Click on your profile icon at the bottom right, which will then pull up both your work and personal accounts
5. Select the accounts you would like to sign in with
Tip: Use CTRL + ALT + < or CTRL + ALT + > to toggle between profiles.
